Fired as part of a downsizing move, she ends her last column with an imaginary letter written by “John Doe,” a concept that takes on a life and political movement that she does not expect.

This is the second of The Schoolhouse Theater’s new film series. Come and enjoy the film with a brief discussion to follow, moderated by Peter Kramer of The Journal News.

Walk-ins welcome!

Thursday March 10, 2016 7:30 PM

You Can’t Take It with You is a 1938 American romantic comedy film directed by Frank Capra and starring Jean Arthur, Lionel Barrymore, James Stewart, and Edward Arnold. Kaufman and Moss Hart, the film is about a man from a family of rich snobs who becomes engaged to a woman from a good-natured but decidedly eccentric family.

The film received two Academy Awards from seven nominations: Best Picture and Best Director for Frank Capra. It was also the highest-grossing picture of the year.

This is the third of The Schoolhouse Theater’s new film series. Come and enjoy the film with a brief discussion to follow, moderated by Peter Kramer of The Journal News.

Frank Capra Film Series: Mr. Smith Goes to Washington

THURSDAY MAY 5, 2016 7:30 PM

Frank Capra’s classic comedy-drama established James Stewart as a lead actor in one of his finest (and most archetypal) roles. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington has often been listed as among Capra’s best, but it has been noted that it “marked a turning point in Capra’s vision of the world, from nervous optimism to a darker, more pessimistic tone.

This is the fourth and final film of The Schoolhouse Theater’s new film series. Come and enjoy the film with a brief discussion to follow.
